Solar is Clean and Pure Energy, Derived from the Sun
The installation of solar panels on your home or building in state of Maryland, DC, or Virginia, helps combat greenhouse gas emissions. Gas prices are on the rise and the reliance on electricity from PEPCO or Thomas Edison energy suppliers is putting a toll on the environment.
The Maryland Energy Administration coordinates and oversees State and local energy programs, it maintains a strong focus on increasing renewable energy production. In a recent study by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, Maryland was ranked the “Most Improved” state in energy efficiency, coming in at No. 6 on the list. The District of Columbia was ranked 8th on the list, while Virginia sat at No. 25.
The DMV is leading the charge in renewable energy adoption and it takes each of us to get there. As more businesses and homeowners adopt alternative energy reliance, we can expect to see greener forests and better air quality, and greenhouse gas reduction.

1. How is electricity in the seaboard region generated?
In 2020, around 79% of Maryland’s electricity came from nuclear and natural gas-fired power plants. Most of the electricity in the seaboard region, including Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania is generated through coal, oil, waste, natural gas or landfill gas. We also have a nuclear power plant in Calvert Cliff that generates energy for the area.
2. Can I generate renewable energy at my home?
Yes, you can! By installing energy generating equipment like solar panel cells, small wind turbines, and geothermal technology, you can generate your own source of clean, pure, and renewable energy.
3. Are there incentives for renewable energy?
Yes, a great resource to help you discover all the incentives available in your state is the DSIRE website. Here, you can explore resources from the state, local, utility, and federal incentives and policies that promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. DSIRE was established in 1995 and is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
4. Can I get a clean energy grant in the state of Maryland?
The Maryland Energy administration has two types of grants for clean energy improvements. The Clean Energy Grant Program has separate applications for residential and commercial grants.
5. Why is renewable energy not widely used?
Cost and infrastructure are the biggest drawbacks when it comes to renewable energy. As the adoption of renewable energy use grows, we expect the cost to install solar energy to drop as it has continually done for the past few years.
